Auto Trans Fluid Capacity

Auto Trans Fluid Capacity
Hey all! I am getting ready to service the auto trans in my 1999 3500 dually diesel, and since I purchased my truck used, I do not have any owners literature regarding the fluid capacities. So I need to know how much fluid to buy to service this trans. Also can the torque convertor be drained? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! SEABEEDALE

TQ cannot be drained while in the truck. The manual call's for 11qts. But i would add around 8-9 quarts and then run the truck thru the gears. And then check it again. Also remember to check the fluid while it is in neutral.

Most say if you drop the pan and change the filter, you'll need 7qts. I did it 3weeks ago and it took that much to fill it back. While you have the pan off install a drain plug....it makes it an easier/cleaner job. I stuck a magnet in the bottom of the pan also to catch anything floating around in there.

6-7 qts sound correct. I have a Deep Dish Mag Hy-Tec and it takes 10 qts. for a change. This bigger pan holds 4 extra qts, for better cooling, so.......!
Having a drain plug.is the only way to fly, IMO.
