auto trans doesn't want to shift from 1st

Tranny doesn't want to come outta first without feathering it or just matting it.pulled the codes got 1757 and 1762.Seem to be tied to some governer which through a search seems to be in the tranny pan.Is this an easy replace job or is there some setup involved? Is this very common?
Thanx
Ken

My '99 had that problem and replacing the speed sensor on the driver's side of the tranny tailshaft solved my problem for ~ $25.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
The RPM sensor on OD case is not the vehicle speed sensor for speedo.
Since you have code for gevernor pressure solenoid and transducer it would be prudent to replace. they are easy to replace. Even a GM tech could do it. While in the pan, service the bands, change filter and install fresh ATF+4.

The way it works: As vehicle speed increases the computer modulates the gov solenoid to build gov pressure. The transducer verifies pressure and will allow for changes in modulation if needed. As pressure increases, the valve body allows movement of valves, redirecting fluid to accomplish shifts.

if you go to a dealer, bring a wheel barrow to carry the cash you will need, I found a local tranny shop that carried what I needed, they replace them in every tranny they do and they test them before they are installed as they are know to be bad out of the box...that being said you might have a better dealer than we do.
I also change out a set in a 97 and found the filter screen was plugged with tranny debris. I had already bought the sensor. so I installed it, I washed the old one off with brake clean, I believe that was the reason the truck would not shift outta first, still have that sender sitting on a shelf. worth looking at when you take it out (who knows)

This may sound crazy! Check your fuel gauge.... are you below 1/4 tank? If you are drive it to a diesel station add enough diesel to get the fuel gauge to the 3/8 or 1/2 mark. If you can't get to a fuel station then disconnect the fuel sending unit on top of the fuel tank. You should be able to reach it if your sitting in front of the drivers rear tire. With a jumper short the two center wires together and secure it so your able to drive with the jumper inplace and connector disconnected from the fuel tank. Start the truck and switch the overhead console to the DistanceToEmpty display. In two or three minutes the DTE display should go to "SC". Then take your truck for a spin... it's important to drive the truck with a light foot for the first shift. If this works you have a ground problem. If you don't have an overhead console, drive the truck after a couple of minutes to see if it will shift. I DON'T THINK THIS WILL WORK IF YOU HAVE AN INTANK FUEL PUMP!!!

hey I have this exact problem with my 01, actually mine wont shift at all from first gear sometimes, what I find works to make it drive because I cant solve the actual issue. is start to drive it when it wont shift shut the truck off but leave the ign. in the run position unhook both grounds and then rehook them back up. start the truck and continue on, it should shift and drive normally until you shut off the ign. again,

now i am not saying this is a good fix but since I cant figure out the problem this will have to work, I replaced the gov. pressure solenoid, and trans ducer the speed sensors on the tranny and rear dif. none of this fixed the problem and I dont have the money for the dealer to rape me,

sorry for the novel but I am curious to see if you have the same problem as me, and if you do can you keep me posted on what you figure out thanks
