ATF+4, is it synthetic?

is ATF+4 synthetic? i talked to a tranny builder about changing the fluid and he said to use ATF+4 non-synthetic. i looked at every parts store in town and no ATF+4 non-synthetic to be found. i thought ATF+4 was synthetic.

thanks dieselfan

According to the information on Valvoline's website, ATF+4 is a synthetic. That is what I will be running.

just filled my tranny up with valvoline ATF +4 all sythentic.

consider partially dropping your valve body to drain another 4 quarts out of your tranny for a more complete flush.

how much did you get when you dropped your VB?
i plan on adding a shift kit, so i will taking the VB out completely.
i was gonna get 15 qts to be safe.

I think 15 is about right if I remember correctly. But you won't fit that in because there is about 3 qts in the TC.

Where did you get your Valvoline? I'm not sure who carries it.

I posted a bargain alert of $3.49 quart for valvoline ATF 4+ from our local NAPA. vs $6 for mobil one synthetic

I got another 4 quarts out by partially dropping valve body. took 7.5 quarts to refill. some ended up on the ground due to no drain plug.

installed a drainplug from Napa. no mess next time. wish I had been able to complete change out fluids. but 8 quarts is better than 4.

new +4 fluid is already getting dirtied up by old residual fluid. but you would not believe the improvements in shifting by simply changing fluid.

Can you give a lil more info? I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same... bottled by Ashland Oil (Valvoline) for DC
