Anyone running a Jake brake?
Anyone running a Jake brake, and which model would you recommend?
I have a 2001, and was thinking of going to the 4" exhaust.
Right now a pull my boat and a heacy duty dump trailer. Sometimes a 5th wheel RV.

I run a PacBrake, but pick your brand, they'll all give good service. Cost a fair bit of cash, but for the money, best mod I've done to the truck so far. As you have an auto trans, you'll need the torque converter locked when using an exhaust brake. There are commercially available electronics to do this, or you could fab up a relay to lock the converter when you activate the brake. HTH

BD, Banks, and Bully Dog all make boxes for this, I'm sure others do also. Ask when you purchase your brake, I'm sure they'll be able to help. If you'd rather fab it yourself, all you need is a relay wired to close when you activate the brake. Google search "mystery switch", you'll find articles to show the wires to tap. HTH

I run a Jacobs exhaust brake on mine, and it works great at at slowing my 19K GVW rig down with the 6 speed.
Just remember, ANY exhaust brake will gum up the IAT sensor because of the engine valve overlap. When you notice more smoke and less fuel mileage after awhile, it's because the IAT sensor needs to be cleaned up with brake cleaner. I've only gotten ONE cleanup to an IAT sensor before the sensor wouldn't work properly at all and needed replacing - about $35 at the **ealership.

I've got a Jacobs in mine. I like it for the most part, other than it loses effect at low RPM. I've heard a lot of good things about the Pacbrake PRXB working better at low RPMs. I'd a probably bought a Pacbrake, but got a deal I couldn't pass up on the Jacobs.
