Anyone have their transfer case crack?
So, I brought my truck to a good local shop(same one that put my CON OFE in) and had them fix the transfer case leak.
They said it was the case halves. So, they resealed it, and put in new seals. $295 later I got it back.
Leaked again within a week.
Brought it back. They resealed it and it still leaks.
They think their is a crack that they can't see. It appears to leak from the top, like above the extension housing.
Anyone have theirs crack?
If I could find the crack, I could get it welded. Have a buddy that is a master fabricator and can weld aluminum like no other.
Any other possibilities besides a crack?
They said they used the Right Stuff, which IMO is about the best silicone RTV there is. I used this when I did my diffs and it worked great.
Thanks

I know they can crack at the drain and refill plugs if the plugs are over-tightened. I'm not sure if that would apply to yours since the leak is originating above the extension, but it's worth checking.

shhhhh! shop knowledge....
if you have a four wheel drive, transfer cases crack at 'flex' or the twist on some angles because the engineers built in axial stress toughness but the bean counters bought Mexican alloys. same thing happening with auto trannys, cheap shift plates......
magna flux is the only way to see the spider web type failures. it may not look like a true crack unitl some time has passed and by then, it is too late.
but I am not supposed to admit to any knowledge of this......so
HYPOTHETICALLY blah blah blah
