Question another lift pump question

Will a v-10 truck have a in tank fuel pump, and if so would it work in one of our trucks
of course it would be a pusher pump and I would think that the v-10 would like good fuel
pressure also. Might be a dumb idea, but was just thinking.

Fuel injection systems require substantially higher (around 45-55 psi) of pressure. We only need about 15.

I have a reliable source that did just that....the V-10 intank pump works great on the Cummins.

Could you give some more details on the setup of the V10 pump for the Cummins? Is the flow rate high enough, how to regulate the pressure and how reliable is it?

Thanks!

An in the tank pump will work fine long as you back down the pressure with a regulator. An alternative external, high quality pump made by Weldon is a great chioce too. It has a built in regulator that is very precise.

That's a nice looking pump, but the GPH rating is kind of low. Our stock pump is rated for around 90-100 GPH.

This other Weldon pump might be better suited for our apps.

Thanks for the link Mysing..

It has the 90-100 GPH rating but has a hard time pulling from the tank at that rate. The stock pump is a pusher pump in it's true design. After a fourth stock LP plus a VP44 on the last one my tech suggested this little pump. The way the tech put it, 45 GPH is a bathtub full of fuel an hour and the engine uses only a miniscule part of that. That still pumps 40+ through the VP44 to lube and cool it. Pressure varies only ± 4 psi at WOT... 55K miles, 4 filters later all seems well... I hope!

True enough. Where do you have your pump mounted? I assume you have the pump set for 12 psi to get the full 45 GPH. Could you give a ballpark $cost$ for the pump?

I started this thread https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=55756 for the purpose of finding alternative lift pumps for our trucks.

If you wouldn't mind I would like to add this pump to that thread.

Set the regulator at wide open, 12 psi. The tech fab'd a mount, just bent up some 1/8" sheet metal on a vise and cleaned it up a bit on a grinder, drilled holes and bolt mounted it where the stock pump went. If I remember right (been 1 1/2 years) cost was about $6-700 bones. Plenty high $$$ but aircraft quality and depenability. I figured cost of replacing 4 stocker pumps @ $160 to justify cost.

Here is a new FASS Lift Pump thread for $386.

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...870#post550870

Click on the "New Pump" link on the top of the page of the FASS link in the thread. It the same pump as the FASS system, minus the filters.

Maybe promissing.
