Another Ball Joint Thread
Well after noticing some very odd tire wear I had my truck thrown up on an alignment rack to see what was up... Well even before work began we did the crow bar under the tire trick and found over 1/4" movement on the side with the bad wear and about 1/8" on the other side .... So need new joints... I know this has been discussed time and again, but I thought I would try to get recent opinions on the best parts to use.... I hear about Moog joints being the best and some other avail at NAPA I believe... I also talked to Quad 4x4 and they only recommend using an OEM replacement saying that they have had Moog joints fail in as little as 2 months ?? (Quad claims that the steering geometry is to blame for the poor ball joint performance... says the problem has even become dramatically worse with the 3rd gen trucks... )
So what is the consensus by this forum?? Need to get some ordered and installed ASAP!
Thanks guys
PS if you have part numbers for what is required on a 01 4x4 post em up!

Thank the stars I bought the extended warranty with my truck. The wife brought it to the local tire shop for an alignment. They said they couldn't do it, the lower ball joints had a quarter of an inch play! They quoted upper and lower joints at $127 each, labor at $232 per side. Then they said something about Dodge 4x4 hubs notorious for seizing and having to possibly replace them as well, $450 each. Grand total (including alignment and tax) of $2064!!! I had 300 miles left on the warranty, so off to the dealer. They did end up changing out the rotors along with all joints.
My cost? $106 Sometimes things do work out for the better!

I'm currently invovlved in a front end rebuild and am awaiting my Thuren track bar. Moog and Dana ball joints are supposedly the best. the Dana ones are zerked top and bottom. The Moog can be zerked for the bottom. I don't have any part numbers but the guys doing my rebuild do big rig front ends all the time and swear the Moogs are the best all around.
