another auto tranny question

ok here is the deal my dad just bought a 2000 2wd 2500 w/150k on tho OD. I drove it the other night and it got me thinking that I might have something wrong. his shifts smooth and between 1800 and 2000rpms on the tac.
Mine is a02 4wdand it seems to shift between2200 and 2700rpms and it is a bit harder. Is this normal? I boutght it used w/62k on it and it has about 64 on it now. so it is possible it has had some tranny modds ,normale or do I have an issue with it. I do have a temp gauge justdont have the sensore hooked up yet Thanks for any help Roger

there both probably ok,they just have different PCM programming. The 2002s had the best of the 2nd gen trans programs,IMO.The 2000 isnt bad,the 98.5-99 24V is known to short shift into 3rd, badly. The truck that shifts hard(02) probably has the 2nd band adjusted about right, and needs a fluid service. The 2000 may have just been serviced so its still shifting smooth, and the TV cable could be set up tighter on the 2002,that alone will make a very notiecable difference.Simply running regualr ATF will make the truck shift firmer.SO the 2002 could have reg ATF in it,instead of +3/+4 fluid. Many trucks will be fine with reg atf,not all of them shudder with ATF.Remember to actually compare the transmissions, all the variables must be the same, same yr truck, configuration and wheelbase. FYI,a 4x4 shifts harder than a 2wd,due to the 4" lift blocks in the rear,a long bed excab shifts softer and goes in gear easier, due to the 2 peice driveshaft,etc......4.10 trucks shift firmer, and feel much quicker, esp stock. So lets take a worst case a reg cab 4x4,(or excab shortbed)with 4.10 will actually shift very firm/solid stock.A 2wd longbox excab 3.55 will shift MUCH smoother, and theres nothign wrong with either one.
