Airtex fuel pump pressure ?

Airtex fuel pump pressure ?
What kind of pressures are you guys getting with the airtex lift pumps and are you happy with the pumps ???? It says CARTER and made in the USA on the pump.
I just installed one in the original location with original lines and banjo bolts and am getting 9-12 pounds at idle and 5-9 wide open loaded with by Quad set at 30 hp or 70 hp extra over stock on my 2001 HO.
Just wondering if that is normal and should I live with it or expect more ?
Yes, I know a FASS or some of the others are better pressures. I already know this, but I don't think I need that, but maybe I am wrong. Comments,?
Thanks.

I am guessing that is just the old Carter as it looked just like the one I took off.
I needed it quick and was 200 miles from home, so I could not be too choosey at 8:30 PM. This new one has a lot more flow volume but not a big increase in psi.

Tell me more about the "inline flow thru" pumps.
Maybe this is what I should have got.
They told me on the phone that they had an airtex in stock and I had heard some good things about them and said I would take it. I did not realize that it was just the old carter until later and they were closed when I opened it.

O'Reilleys is where I bought mine, but it is just the old style with a new number and an airtex box.
I don't know what the pressure's should be, right before it goes into my injection pump. Anyone know or can you tell what yours are to compare to mine ???
Thanks

I have the new style airtex mounted on the frame rail (had to get an extra fitting from vulcan performance). It's only been on about 5000 miles, but so far I'm very happy with it. 17 psi idle, 15 psi cruising, 13 psi pulling big hills with a big load.

That is alot better pressure than mine and I wish now that I had the new style also. Maybe next time. And maybe mine would be better with this pump if I mounted it closer to the tank. I don't know.
Is it true that if it does not go under 4-5 lbs for a very long time that will be enough pressure and flow and no damage should occur ??
Thanks.

PIX of airtex and FP.
I have an airtex, put on about 2 weeks ago. Has idled at 20 PSI, is that too high of pressure. When warm, idle, 18 psi cruise at about 15-16 psi
WOT 13 psi.

I can't tell you what would be the safe range, hi and low. I am trying to find out myself, and also what to expect and be satisfied with on different brand of pumps mounted in stock location.
Good Luck.

I just picked up an airtex pump also. I was 200+ miles away from home too when my 4th carter pump thats on the truck now started to crap out,, I sure am glad I have a f.p. guage on there!
At first I thought it was the wrong pump,, I got it from O'Rielly's and the kid over the phone took a long time to get the right pump,, kept asking me if it was the in-tank pump, or if I had a auto or manual transmission....
After seeing a few people on here talk good about them, I feel better. Also, the pump had a tag on it explaining that it was a re-designed and better pump.
It feels much heavier than the old carter, it's a different shape so it's a different type of pump, and, there is a rubber sleeve around the pump in-between the pump and the mounting bracket which looks like it would help absorb vibrations.
I have the Vulcan big line/relocation kit already installed, so I am waiting on a new fitting coming in the mail. I think that this pump will be much better than the old carter pumps. BUT, I still think you should relocate it to the frame with the big line kit.
The stock location just shakes the snot out of the L.P. and gets it hot,, plus the stock fuel lines are really small, have a lot of bends in them and I think they make the L.P. strain constantly, wearing it out fast.

I think most people think about 20 psi is about the most to run. I have an AirTex, waiting to put it on. The current Carter (#3 in 45k) is running good, but I know it will take a dump at worst time.
There are still a lot of Carter pumps in Airtex boxes.
