Advantages of having an aluminum acumulator?

Hi, I am just wondering what are the advantages of having an aluminum accumulator in the tranny instead of the factory plastic one?

Also, why do some VB shift kits want you to remove the spring from the stock accumulator? Just trying to learn.

From what I'm told is that the plastic one can wear out and crack and cause a leaking issue. The aluminum one is stronger and won't wear out as fast if at all and it will seal better. A better seal means more pressure is getting to where it's supposed to be.

Removing the spring from the accumulator removes the cushioning effect it has and allows for rapid changes in pressure transition to occur. This makes for a harsher shift and can actually allow for a slight increase in shift speed, though it is a minor change. I have noticed that most people associate harshness with speed. The shift ends up feeling harder but not really much faster....there are certainly better ways to achieve higher shifting speed! As long as the line pressure isn't ridiculously high, removing the spring might be acceptable. It certainly won't be affecting the rest of the shift kit's functions by leaving it in, though.

ok, I noticed with my aluminum accumulator that it stays in the tranny when I drop the VB, the aluminum accumulator doesnt have a spring inside it in the top, but has the normal spring on the bottom that falls out with the VB, so what would be the effect if I removed the spring from the accumulator?

Dustys already got this thing shifting great, I am just wondering for future reference, for instance, I might put a shift kit in one of my friends truck until he can afford a VB. So I am just figuring all the tricks out.

The new DTT one also has 2 O-rings where stock only has 1.
