acceptable ripple in an alternator
I've been trying to deal with my TC lock/unlock on a permanent basis. I have read that many alternators can have a bad diode that will also cause this. Is there an acceptable "ripple" in the voltage, at which point..if you get more ripple, you have a bad alternator? I just took my vom out and checked with it running and the ACV reads 26 volts between ground and positive. I sure did not expect that. I was going to try a difference VOM but my other one is auto-ranging and refuses to take a reading. Anybody who knows, please chime in.

Might be a moot point. I just switched polatiry on my auto ranging vom and it shows ripple in the hundredths of a volt a/c.... So I guess that's not enough to worry about. I no longer have my o-scope so I can't actually do a really nice check.

I just started assessing my AC noise as well, my voltage was 34 v AC, didn't try to reverse poles. The acceptable numbers i've read are below 0.1 so either my alternator is whacked or I'm testing it wrong. . Im having issues with erratic throttle but my apps sensor tests ok, next thing is grounds, broken wires, alternator AC noise or the ECM
