Question ABS in not working P0500 code

My ABS quit working and I checked all the connections I could find, fuses, relays and everything looks ok. Everything else is normal, no ABS or brake light and speedo works but I do show a P0500 code. Is this related or does anyone have any ideas?

P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 Circuit, or No Vehicle Speed Reference Signal 1

I had that also, my abs and brake light was on, and speedo did not work till 15 mph or so, replaced the speed sensor on rear differential and fixed the problem, $30 part from the Dodge dealership.

Did the ABS not work or did you just have the indicator lights?
What has me puzzled is I don't have anything showing wrong just the one code and the ABS isn't working.
Is there a sensor in the front diff to tell when the front wheels lock or how does the ABS know when to start working?
I just pulled the sensor and cleaned it and I will clear the codes and go drive it and see what happens....

I may have given you some wrong info, looking in the Hanyes manual 99 and later shows it listed on the transmission 2wd, transfer case 4wd. I will let someone else chime in here, sorry if I steered you in the wrong direction.

I replaced the rear speed sensor on my truck, the Hanyes manual leaves some room for improvement on trouble shooting etc, but does give a good lay out.

OK, I cleaned the sensor, drove it around and no codes.
I think I have also figured out why the ABS doesn't work too, since I don't have 4 wheel ABS I assumed that it was on the front only but I have since discovered it only controlls the rear wheels.
So.....I guess no matter how much I lock up the front end it isn't going to work!
