99 ctd AUTO trans wont upshift w OD on
it happened sometimes and lately many many times...the trans wont upshift to 3rd gear (especially when drive on grade, even little grade) RPMs goes on but trans wont upshift untill it engage the overdrive... If I switch off the OD it shift 1st 2nd and 3rd like a champ!!pushing me uphill in second! it happened only when OD is ON.
what's can cause this?? I'm waiting filter and gasket to change the oil..I checked oil color and odor and it's good for me, very clear.
any help must be very apprecciate

Could it be missing second gear instead. If in tranny, the clutch applies in 3rd(direct) is same clutch that must be applied for OD to work.
Could it be missing lockup. It is difficult to determine 3rd or 3rd lockup.
Believe your tranny shifts from first, to second, to direct(3rd), 3rd lockup and finally 4th lockup.

Diesel's and automatics don't give good engine braking in any gear. In OD the engine will go to idle on full coast with no engine braking. Ride in another Diesel auto to familiarize with how it works and what is normal. Lockup generally goes away in direct on decel to keep engine from bucking. Lockup not avaliable in 2nd or low gear.

Tonight drive home, stopped fro a few minutes in a rest area with truck idling..then restart drive home but it doesn't go much fast than 65 kmh.....!wont upshift, to 3rd gear I think....rpms goes on but truck speed was always 65kmh!!I'm very stuck....stop the truck(keep it in N always in idle) 1or2 minutes than drive again and it's totally normal...shift into OD and go fast as I want... What problem can I have? lockup again...?
