98.5 24 valve engine swap help
So im a Ford tech and a buddy of mine invited me to help him with his mess at his shop. He has a 98.5 24 valve cummins with a manual trans. He took a motor out of a donor truck which was a 2001 with an automatic trans and installed it in the 98.5. It runs but the Tac is inop and she runs like a dog. First thing I noticed was crank sensor reluctor was missing on crankshaft behind the dummy plug on side of block. Is there any way to relocate the sensor or delete it?

The early 24V and the later 24V either use a cam position sensor or a crank position sensor. The wire harnesses also differs to work with the different style plug ins as well.
It is best to use the right year motor, which as I have a dozen + Cummins motors to choose from in my shop is how I have always done it.
You are correct in the first thing you noticed. You will need to research what your options are, at this point.
Maybe using all the wiring and computers from the '01 donor is an option to look at.
Or sell the '01 motor and buy the right engine style for his truck. I could help with getting you the proper 24V motor.
