5W30 Pennzoil?
So today I just found out that when the dealership serviced the vehicle before selling it they used 5w30 motor oil. So my question is will that be ok until its due for changing or should it be removed immediately?

There are some ??? here , 1st 5w30 too thin , the 5 part was made up for the car/truck builders to help get the federal millage requirements up , but its too thin to do a good job at lube [ at least thats what has been said by some techs at a oil lab workers that I talked to at the watering hole some yrs. ago ]
Next is , was that oil diesel rated ?
But just noticed your in AK , so under exstream conditions , a synthetic may be the way to go .

I guess they use 5w30 here for most vehicles in the winter because its thinner for the bitter cold temps. Ive never heard of using it in diesels before but Im wondering if they didnt use 5w30 synthetic now that I think about it. I will have to call them monday morning and find out. I dont think its diesel rated if its motor oil, according to the pennzoil site

5w30 most likely isn't for CI engines. All I've ever come across for thin diesel oil is 0w40 and 5w40 synthetics from Rotella. I know there are more, but those are the only ones I've seen. I ran 0w40 last year, and 5w40 this year. They both make starting when cold much easier. Downside is they are bloody expensive. I'm thinking about getting an oil sample kit to see how far I can go on an oil change. If I can go a year on the synthetic, then $100 for oil isn't quite so bad.

Biggest difference between spark ignition oil and diesel (S versus C) is the soot handling. It will probably go a long ways, but i would switch to a C rated oil at your earliest convenience. Lots of CI-4 5W-40 synthetics out there including Rotella, Delvac 1, Valvoline. Amsoil is 5W-30 and also CI-4
Don't make the jump to CJ-4 oils. Your truck doesn't need it (07 & up) and no benefit.
