5 Speed Transmission HP/Torque Capability
Wondered if you folks had some thoughts on what HP and Torque a stock 5 speed and factory clutch can handle? Would 300 HP and 600 footpounds be too hard on one? Any comments are appreciated. Andy

too many variables to say. Variance in people's driving habits and factory tolerance are huge. Bomb to the level you want, then fix the clutch when you need to.
It's a pointless guessing game to wonder how much a stocker clutch will hold.

My clutch has held with my towing and i'm at about 325 flywheel hp and less then 700 torque. the 5spd will hold up to 15oo #of torque i've been told by rod. Ive busted two input shafts first due to poor maintence by previous owner and the other is due to casting flaw. I tow about 85% of the time and it all works just fine

Thanks for the Comments
Thanks guys for the comments. I am estimating 300HP at the flywheel and 600 footpounds and only plan on pulling a 5th wheel about a dozen times a year so it sounds like I should be okay. Thanks again for the comments. Andy

Hey guys. I've got a 99 2500 4x4 with a Power Max2. In the summer or with temperture above 45 degrees it works fine any cooler than that it slips mainly under load from about 1500 to 1800 RPM. Any ideas? Has anyone on here with a Power Max 2 ever had it Dyno'ed?
