5-Speed Issues
Latelty I have been having a hard time putting the truck in gear from a stop. Once moving it is good. To get it in gear you have to move the truck an inch or so in what ever gear works to get your starting gear.Any thoughts? Maybe a syncro? Seems to be 1,2,3 and Reverse

Is the shifter lose or have to much side to side free play? I would first try pulling the shifter out and check to the rubber that is on the top of the trans. that the shifter mounts to is not worn out and fulling in tact. I recently had the same problem and I was thinking first it was the synrcos too, but the problem turned out to be much easier and simpler to fix.

I had similar problems, but it was after I changed the OEM fluid to a different synthetic lubricant that's highly propagandized on the forums. I've then since changed that out, and am using Redline MT-90 synthetic transmission lube, and at least for me, shifting is back to normal.
http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/nv4500_spec.htm gives you all the details of this transmission, maybe it'll help.

How is it on the highway? Mine all of a sudden wouldn't come out of gear or go back in. Had to drive without a clutch to get home. Turned out to be the pilot bearing siezed. Had 100 000 miles on it. Dodge said they have had a few in already same thing.
See if it gets worse. Just a thought if the you can't find any of the simple problems first.

I had the same problem on my 98 12 valve and it was the back of the tranny,if you take it out and remove the aluminum cover that has about 8-10 bolts holding it than you will see what im talking about it is just behind the 5th gear there is a metal plate and I think it had like 4-6 3/8 or 1/4 inch bolts that backed off and it let the main shaft get some play in it.. I guess it is what holds the Main shaft bearing in, All I do know for sure is that mine did have 2 bolts that were broke off in it and after it was all fixed my hard shifting was cured....Untill I spun the 5th gear on the shaft and had to do it all over again...I would also highly recommend that if you have it apart to get the new updated nut from one of the SITE suppliers..GOOOD LUCK
