is a cool site.
NV5600 (H) 5.63/3.38/2.04/1.39/1.00/0.73/5.63R
'99 up Dodge dsl.
NV4500 (H) 5.61/3.04/1.67/1.00/0.75/5.04R Chrysler/GM95-up. Note the huge hole between 2nd/3rd.
The NV5600 is a much stouter trans than the NV4500. Heavier, larger gears, bearings, case. Take a look at the torque maxes for ea. on the site. They also have Tcases listed there. The 241HD has a lot higher tq. rating. Check out the myriad of h.d. t.cases NVgear makes. What do those go in?
I've driven the NV5600 ('01.5 Dodge) for 3 years now and find it to be a very easy trans to shift. No woes. The gates are closer than 4 and 5 speeds.
The weight of the NV4500 is around 195 lbs, whereas the NV5600 is 360 lbs. No aluminum case here. It translates into pure strength.

Re:5 speed or 6 speed
My NV5600 is holding 350rwhp on the stock clutch just fine. It shifts smoothly, and the ratios are PERFECT.
Besides, how much work are you really saving by having one less gear to shift?
Heck, I always start in first around town. Don't talk to me about having to shift all the time

Note on the Transfer Case, You can get the 241 transfer case in both the HD and regular models with any of the transmissions. It is standard on the 3500's and a option on the 2500. It is a $100 option on the 2500's. I have it with a 5-speed on my 2002.5. After jan of the 2002 models they made the driveshaft turn constantly you just pull the lever and it is in right then. Also makes rotating the tires nice since you can put it in 4x4 and undo the lugs real quick with the truck off.

YOu must be reading something else than the site. The 241 and the 241hd have the same torque ratings but he hd is for the heavier vehicle. I have the 241, it has operated flawlessly pulled me out of the mud loaded a couple of times.
