4x4 light not comming on
hey everyone i have a small favour to ask for people who have the same gen and simlar year as my truck.
when i shift into 4high the 4x4 engages fine. but my 4x4 light wont come on.
when you turn the key to the on position and the dashboard light check comes on the 4x4 light wont illuminate either. can someone tell me if the 4x4 light comes on or not when you turn the key on during bulb check.
im trying to detemermine between a bad bulb or maybe a bad switch.

haven't put it up in the air yet. last night was the first time i used my 4x4 and i just noticed it. it just sounds like a bulb cause it wont turn on during bulb check when you turn the key to the on position.
im just trying to figure out where i should start before i pull my cluster out.

The 4x4 light comes on when the axle disconnect engages, on pre-2000 trucks. There are differences in the front axle on 2000-2002 trucks, and I am not sure if one of the differences is the axle disconnect.
But, if it is the same as my 99, and your axle is connect engaging correctly, your 4x4 light will not come one.

Just thought about it. If you turn the ignition on while holding the trip odometer button in, the gauge set should go into check mode and everything should light up in the gauge set.

If you have a CAD on the the right side of the axle, then you probably have a bad or disconnected switch there if you have 4x4 with no light. The vacuum activates the cad wich inturn activates a switch..
