4x4 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL???
After hauling new deer stand to the lease this evening, shifted to 4-hi, no 4x4 light and no engagement. Same thing in 4-lo. After driving home was able to get it all to work 3 times every now & then. All vacuum hoses and wires are connected on differential and so on. I went ahead and cleaned the elect-connection. Still dont work. Any suggestions? :'(

Re:4x4 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL???
The electrical connection that you cleaned is just for the 4x4 light it doesn't do anything for the engagement of 4x4. You must have a vacuum leak somewhere or the vacuum switch on top of you transfer case is out. Just incase you didn't know the vacuum lines run in front of you skid plate and have a rubber fitting that connects the plastic lines to the metal lines. I have seen these connections get loose and cause the problem that you are having.

Re:4x4 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL???
Fixed it with a ballpeen hammer. 8) Must have run over a boulder when crossing a creek bed. The vacuum diaphram on the differential was bent. Rock hit the small skid plate that (protects) the diaphram. The diaphram is able to roll a little bit, and looked like a bent wheel when moved back and forth. Tapped it back to where it looked good. 4x4 works like a champ. New deer stand is up anw waiting for a kill. ;D Lesson learned. Always carry a hammer and a rug to crawl on when off roading.

Hammers are a mechanics best friend!
"Don't force it, get a bigger hammer, if it breaks then it needed to be replaced anyway" ;D

This couldn't happen to me, could it? I don't have the Central Axle Disconnect on my truck (late 02).

As far has I have seen you should have the same 4x4 as in the trucks from about 1986. I don't think that have changed it until 2003.

Re:4x4 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL???
This had to happen in the middle of the creek bed. It did stay in gear until I hit the hard road and shifted back to 2x2. If it was to unlock when the diaphram got bent, this could be a big problem. Might have to look into the t-handle cable thing if I am thinking right. At least it was an easy fix this time. HAPPY HUNTING!!!
