47re trans ?
flushed trans and changed filter the other day, had a few questions about it. first off- i hooked the lines up where the return line goes into the trans on the side in the back, could not get quick-connects apart by cooler, when i started truck to pump fluid out, fluid would not come out...had to put in gear and then fluid would come out return line. is this right?
second- when flushed , i refilled and went to check fluid in nuetral and kept getting dipstick reading that it was empty- nothing on stick. finally had to put in gear w/ parking brake on and would get a reading on the stick then. when i flushed it, i put 20 quarts into trans until sight glass in machine showed clean fluid coming out. added another 6 quarts to top off. when checked in drive and hot it has a full reading. any thoughts on this? thanks for any help. p.s.- truck appears to be running fine except for the "hunt"...also- i just bought this truck back from a buddy and it has 235k miles on it.

Stock 47re does not pump much fluid at all in park, should have full flow in neutral though. Not sure about reading empty in neutral, manual states with tranny warm go through all the gears for a second or two then check in neutral, level ground of course. The converter itself holds a few gallons of fluid.
