47RE question
On startup if truck has sat a while I have to shift to drive, neutral and back into reverse and have to rev up engine a bit to get truck going. Otherwise it works fine. Does ATF have to circulate through torque converter or? Is this normal?

That condition is called, by trans shops, 'morning sickness'.
The clearances in the pump circuit are loose and allowing the converter to drain back into the pan on lond sitting times.
Here is what you do, Start it up, immediately go to neutral. This allows fluid flow. It doesn't pump fluid in park.
When you do have it serviced, shop around for a GOOD trans shop and ask them to modify the VB for full time fluid flow. This helps, but doesn't cure the problem.
The slow fill will not cause failure but shows it has some wear on it.
The cooler line has a check ball in it to reduce this issue. This check ball has caused trans failures when it sticks and prevents flow. Also have them find it and remove it.

I've checked manual to see how this valve looks like but there's no picture of it. Doesn't look like they sell these at the parts stores either. I was thinking about just replacing it with new one

Better off without it. Better flow and no chance of it going out on you.
Most after market trannys remove the check ball.
All that is required is a little warm up time after sitting a while. Give it 30-60 sec on startup before putting into gear.
A little warm up time is a good idea anyway.... for any CTD!
If you are the impatient type, a remote start mod is a great add on!
