4 wheel conversion issues
I recently did a conversion of an 02 cab and chassis 2 wheel drive to a 4 wheel drive. I am wondering if there is a template where the transfer case shifter goes. I took a guess at hole location but I am having issues shifting its 4 positions going one direction. Going towards the front of the truck with the little shifter mount I get all 4 positions. Going backwards I can't get any its to hard to shift. I am thinking the hole for the shifter maybe slid forward to much taking away some leverage needed to shift the other direction. Any help would be appreciated. Its a 02 cummins 3500 nv4500 NP241DHD transfer case. IF ANYONE TELLS YOU A CONVERSION IS EASY or COST EFFECTIVE they are full of it unless your a mechanic or fabricator. LOL ............I had one fellow tell me with the cost of a new truck I'm getting a deal.

Depending on which T-case you use for you conversion, they come with a different shifter pattern along with shifter rod length, and also the shifter bar that attaches to the T -case 4x4 shifter stub.
When the wrong parts are used together, very short throw, with a lot of effort needed for 4x4 shifting, or very long throw shifting will result.
I am using a '94-'97 style T-case with the speedo sender in it on my '98 12V and I swapped the shifter bar on from a '98-'02 style T-case and use the earlier shifter **** with the correct shift pattern and it all works well now.

Thanks for the input. Do you know if there are more than one shifter style ? I have both short and long linkages but I didn't consider the shifter itself being different between the years. My TCASE and Front end are out of a 95 3500 v10 truck. I bought the shifter online I think its from a 98. I am still not positive the shifter itself is in the right location. It must be close because it looks right with the bezel on it and I think there is only one manual bezel for all the years. I just had the tcase rebuilt so it shifts pretty hard but probably normal for these TCases. I will play with it this weekend.

Yes, That is what I am saying, there are two different shifter style with all different parts.
The '94-'97 style, then the '98-'02 style.
Sounds, like you will need the couple inch long shifter bar that bolts to the '98-'02 style T-case to fix your problem.
