You don't have to change the carriers when goin to 4.10's. The Dana carriers have a 4.10 split. If you go to say 4.56 gears, THEN you would need new carriers. I put 4.10's in my truck, had the 3.54's, but my truck rides on 38" tires. I also swapped my tranny from an auto to a NV4500 along with doing the 4.10's. I should have went to 4.56's, but didn't want to buy the carriers. It sucks having to take off in 1st gear all the time!! Yes with 4.10's and a manual I can't take off in second, well I can but it lugs BAD!! Oh well, my truck looks bad *** though!!

I have 4:10's and I would really like to go to 3:54's. At 118kph, the engine is revving at around 2150rpm. I'm looking for a reduction in the thrashing from under the hood more than anything else.
I'm not in a hurry to do this...since it sounds like a pain and my driveline is working flawlessly at the moment.
I have wondered why there doesn't seem to be an over/underdrive unit which would fit between the tranny and the transfer case. Seems logical to me.
