4:10 Gear Question?

I'm thinking of going from 3:54 to 4:10's in my truck with some type of two speed rearend or a gear vendor overdrive and have a couple of questions before I do so? What kind of mileage can I expect to get with the gear vendors or a splitter? Do you think it will be close to the 3:54's at highway speeds w/ the splitter? Also are they worth the money and if soo which brands have you guys had the most luck with? Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks soo much!

Rich I just spoke to the people @ Gearvendors and they told me that with their product includes a sensor that it put inside the transfer case that dis engages the gear when the 4wd is engaged and vice versa! That made me feel alot better! Anyone on this site running any type mod like this now?

I installed one (GV) on a 99 with 4:10 and he is real happy with it and it will disable the OD automatically when in 4x4 .had to get the drive shaft shortened.

I have a truck with 4:10 with stock size tires it sucks, your reved out by 65 MPH on 5th gear 2250 RPMS bad fuel mileage, the gear vendors stuff is only what a .7 or .6 od? why not just use your 1:1 ratio in the trans or your 5th gear I think, you would also have to change your carrier in your rear dana 80 to a 4:10 anyways I wouldnt do it, with the granny gear what else would the 4:10 provide?

Gear Vendor told me that if my truck is turning 2K RPMS @ 70 now that it will turn around 2400 w/ 4:10's. With the overdrive installed and 4:10's it should take it to on avg 1900 RPMS! I just wanted the best of both world...low end pulling and mileage too! I've already got everything to swap to 4:10's front and rear just was a little hestitant due to the mileage issue but it sounds like a NO brainer w/ the two speed gear vendors! I may be wrong.....

with a granny gear I have never had an issue getting off the line up a hill with a load with the 4:10's but hey give it a shot and if you dont like it swap back.

I've got 4.10's and 35's and would love me some 37's to get the rpm's down a bit, I'm at 2K at 70 mph.

If you tow a lot I would reconsider the Gear Vendors unit. I haven't seen them hold up well in heavy towing.

Don't know about loosing the 4x4, but I would keep the 3:55 and look at either the gear vendors or US Gear underdrive unit. The US Gear underdrive will give you a 4:33 rear ratio while keeping the 3:55's in the rear end.

I've looked at it as well. I also am considering going to 4:10's for towing my fifth wheel when thats all I going to do. It will increase mileage for me by taking some of the load off the engine. The cost of the gears new is somewhere between 750-1100 dollars, plus the carrier, plus someone to change it out and can do it right. I think its pretty close to the cost of the US Gear unit installed.

When I installed the Gear Vendors with 4.10, it increased 1 mpg. They are right about it not holding up under heavy loads, mine didn't. Mine was 2wd so I don't know about the transfer case.

i tow heavy and have only had 4:10's once will never have them again. these trucks tow real well with the higher gears. had about 18k on the trailer going to houston and out ran an a duramax dragging an empty cattle trailer . my truck is stock. lower gears are only good for steep mountain climbing as far as the 4wheel drive you cant use it when the unit is engaged
