I had mine done at the dealer where I bought it last fall, they did not charge me anything. Try and find a friendly dealer... Man, when the 3 cyl idle kicks in, it sounds like a rod is going to come through the head, sure warms up real nice though. Egts go from 300 to 600 in a hurry...

My truck is 2001 and stock, dealer took about 3 minutes to download under the dash. Didn't want anything for it. I bought a box of Tim Horton's donuts for the boys in shop and they happy.

cool thanks for the info guys. My truck takes for ever to warm up. It was 5 degrees outside today. It took about 20 minutes for my truck to warm up.

High idle video

I just uploaded a couple short clips of the high idle kicking on my truck last winter. This is a no plug in 20 below cold start, the truck almost killed when it enabled. This is an 01 5 speed just flashed with a smarty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFzMqUxpamc
part two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqSOGnUMS_I

i made a switch for mine...i dont have 3cyl..but i do have high idle
however i am curious about this 3cyl thing for times when i dont plug it in.....is there a way to kill it to be able to drive away if i dont wanna leave it running for a long time? and how long does it run on 3cyl before it goes to normal???

Look here for what's going on in CO

Join your local chapter and i'm sure one of them have a Smarty for you to load and get the high idle feature. It leaves it behind after it is unloaded.

As soon as you tap the brake it goes to normal idle. When it does the 3 cylinder drop it hasn't ever shut itself off untill i hit the brake, and i have let it go a while so i don't know if it will by itself or not. Once it warms up it don't sound nearly as bad as it does cold, it sounds like a little 3 banger diesel tractor like a yanmar or something along those lines.

Depends on air temp so i would say about 15 minutes give or take. That feature starts working at 15 F.

I may have found someone on craigslist, they think it is locked with one VIN at a time though. Does that apply with just the performance changes, not the "diagnostic tool" type action? Does the other person need have to return their truck to stock to enable mine? Thanks!

They will have to return their truck to stock, then load a tune on your truck then take it back off your truck. It will leave behind the high idle. It did on mine.
