24v with occasional miss at idle
New to the forums I searched and searched and couldn't find anything that I thought that was similar. I recently purchased a 2000 3/4 dodge with 24v auto. 247500 miles with a reman vp. I drove it home and started changing fluids and filters and when I got to the fuel filter, I could not get it to prime, and it had no primer button like my 95 does, so I searched and searched and was in a bind so I went to oreilly and got a new lift pump. Now occasionally it has a miss at idle after it has gotten up to operating temps only. I am not sure if the lift pump was dead for a long time and messed up the vp or not. I disconnected the batteries and let it sit for 30, reconnected them and slowly pressed in the skinny pedal, hoping that it was a tps issue. No luck! What else should I be looking for and where is the best place for fuel gauges. And I am looking at replacing the stock styled lift pump. Thanks

Could be a number of things besides the LP, so don't start throwing parts at it til we figure this out.
First of all check for codes using the key on/off trick. 3 times, do not start truck and leave in on position, look in odometer window and write down the 4 digit numbers that show up.
It will cycle thru 2 series of checks and show "done" after teh two checks.
Secondly, after a fuel filter change you can bump the ignition to get the lp to charge the canister, or you can crack a couple injection lines at the head and kick it over til fuell leaks out then snug them up.
You may have to reset the APPS or check your cam position sensor.
Check for those codes and post up and lets see what's goin on.

Thanks, I will look up the apps reset, when I bought the truck it was showing a 1693, but it cleared when I got home and disconnected the batteries.
I had to get on here after the fuel filter change because the lift pump was out and I didn't know that this model had one. I thought it was the 3rd gens that got them, my mistake. I have put 1000 miles on the truck since the fuel filter change and probably 10 times at idle it has had a noticeable miss, and that is a god bit of it city driving.

Good deal...
The 1693 is a companion code that will accompany other codes, it will go away after a few startup/shutdowns.
Something you can try regarding the APPS is set the cruise control and see if it stops hesitating, if so, then you can reset the apps , but will probably find you need to replace it after that casue it will start doing it again shortly afterwards.....
Seeing it is at idle though has me thinkin it may be something else...

Did the apps this morning and, it will take some time to see if it comes back. Since it doesn't not happen all of the time. While I had everything disconnected , I went ahead and checked the batteries and cleaned terminals. One was only showing 8.5 volts sitting. So while I was out, I went ahead and picked up 2 fresh ones. They are both from October of 08 so the other one is probably about dead. Could this have been the problem all along?
The truck has no problems running, or using the cruise control, only an occasional idle thing.
I did give it a double shot of the power service with cetane boost, the other day.

Good catch on the bad battery. I just change them every 5 years now, regardless of how they look so I don't get stranded out in the boonies.

I used to drive a 98 Cummins service truck that did this, come to find out, it had an injector down. It just had a slight miss occasionally, hopefully that's not the case.

Still no codes, and it only has the miss in park and after a good run, 30 minutes of running or more. If the motor is still cold it will not have any problems. If I make a 30+ minute run and kill the motor and let it sit for 10 minutes or longer it idles fine after the restart. Thanks guys.

My 98.5 did the same thing at about 185k mi. Didn't miss all the time, just every now and then at idle. I ended up buying marine injectors from cummins and its never done it since and i got a few extra ponies. If i remember right the injectors were only about $50 or $60 and were 300hp over the dismal 215hp that were in it to begin with.
