2002 Cruise control - works after unhooking the batteries for while

My truck has been doing this for a couple years and I am tired of it.

Everything is wonderful and then the cruise decides to surge. It gets so bad you can't use the cruise.

Unhook the batteries over night and everything is wonderful again. It may last a couple weeks or a couple months. No pattern that I can cipher out.

How do I fix it for good? The ECM was replaced this spring but it made no difference in the cruise.

I have took apart and cleaned all the grounds that I can find already. No problems found and nothing was fixed.

Is that the only possibility? Sometimes it goes for months then gradually gets worse. Why would pulling the batts fix it for a while?

Don't know, just throwin it out there to consider, seems to affect cruise control more than anything else...

Another possibility is the actual cruise control electronics in the ECM, which would be spendy to replace with out knowing for sure. Do you have any codes? Probably not one for CC...

The ECM was replaced this spring at a dealer. The problem started a couple years ago and has not changed. Very unpredictable, sometimes good for weeks and other times good for months.
