2001 VP44 and lift Question

I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel 6-speed. The truck is throwing the P0216 code which is the pump timing failure. From what iv read that means the injection pump is going out but my truck doesnt have any of the symptoms no white smoking or hard starts. The only thing is when the truck sits and you jump in it and go it will just about stall out in 2nd. Press the pedal wont do nothin then it just takes off and doesnt do it anymore. What does this sound like?

Too many of us have been there. Each VP that goes out has its own unique set of symptoms before calling it quits for good. I agree your VP is on its way out, albeit in the early stages now. Your lift pump will need to be replaced at the same time as I am sure it is bad and probably the cause of your VP failure. It's tough to bite the big bullet but get a reliable aftermarket lift pump with your new VP along with a gauge and you will sleep better at night. Nothing worse than having to buy another VP in 50k due to another cheap lift pump failure. Good luck

Mine never even logged a code. Get it out of there before it leaves you stranded like mine did after ignoring the warnings and hoping for the best. It was REALLY embarassing comming home on the back of a wrecker.
