2001 auto same as early 2003 SO auto?
Hey guys,
Thought I'd jump over to the 2nd gen forum and see what's cookin'
Actually, I have a neighbor who just bought a 2001 CTD with the auto tranny. I'm assuming it's the same (47RE) that's in mine. I mentioned that I'd be doing my 60,000 mile tranny service soon, and he wondered if he could watch. So three questions for you:
1. the '01 uses ATF+4, right?
2. Are the band torques the same as my '03? (front=72in/lb, back off 1 1/4 turns, rear 72in/lb, back off 3 turns).
3. Since he has no idea the service history of the truck, he wants to do a fluid exchange (not a power flush) and filter change (which is what I'm doing). I guess with 200k miles that's not going to hurt anything?
Thanks!

Thanks, appreciate the info.
BTW, anyone have a problem with using the Wal-mart Supertech ATF+4? It's a buck cheaper per quart than the Mopar, should be up to snuff though...

1. Yes and Wally World fluid is just peachy of course.
2. My book shows 1 7/8 back off on front band. Or approx 1/4 inch clearance between sevro pushrod and lever. If threads are used up on KD band adjusting screw, the band is WORN out and best get tranny overhauled.
3. No won't hurt. If fluid is really bad you might change a few quarts, run 50-200 miles or so and change all. Rear cooler line loosen will facilitate fluid removal and mess when drop pan. Run engine till fluid sputters from tube, and no longer.
