2000 CTD Lift Pump Change Out
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. I have a 2000 CTD and I'm getting ready to change out the lift pump. How do you approach this? It's in a tight location, do I have to remove the entire fuel filter housing to get to it?
My second question is; if I add on the Carter in line boost pump, do I tie it to the lift pump circuit so they run simultaneously or should I just put on a 'key-on' hot circuit??
Thanks,
Mike

I just went through this a couple of weeks ago. While you are at it, it would be a good time to change the fuel filter. It would also be a good idea to change your banjo bolts to high flow ones (they do make a difference). It will take 5 and don't forget to get the rubberized washers that go on each side of the banjos. You will want to find a Cummins shop to get the pump and washers. I checked with Dodge they wanted $220.00 and Cummins wanted $148.00.
It should take about an hour. Here is a link to give you an idea of what to do. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/Notice878.htm and here is a link of where things are on your truck: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/mt_...l_sys_comp.htm
I didn't do all the stuff the way they said. I laid across the top of the motor and reached down to the pump, it was a pain with the washers but take your time they will go.
You can also do a search on lift pumps there should be a lot of reading on that.
I got my high flow bolts at West Texas Turbo Diesel you can find him and other site sponsors in the "Links" pages. There will be other to fill in where I missed, and more info on where to get the high flow banjo bolts.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck
edit: You might want to follow this thread it is about the bolts. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=37404
