Well, I ran out of time and patience. I wound up going through my insurance agency to have it loaded up on a rollback. My cost - $22. The local Cummins shop (nice guys) has the truck, and they will remove the sensor, install the new one and put the starter back on. I'm pretty good with a wrench, until I get ****** off about something (like this) that should be easy ... but is not.
Installing the injectors on my truck was a cake walk compared to that friggin sensor. The Cummins shop labor will probably cost me $100, but at this point its worth it. Any more frustration and I'd come out from under that truck like the Tasmanian Devil (on Bugs Bunny) and do way more than $100 worth of damage due to my bad temper. Heck, realizing that, I saved money.

63 bucks is cheap in my opinion istead of doing it twice! I'm kinda **** about stuff like that though. I HATE doing anything twice, especially if I do it the second time for free! ( Technician by trade! )

Truckman - look on the Cummins website to see if you have a service location close (probably do). I bought the sensor with the bracket from Cummins, for $40, plus tax. My $0.02.
That and I would let the Cummins place do the work. It's not complex, but that darn sensor is a royal PITA.

I did mine Sat. afternoon , took about an hour. I had a tough time getting it to rotate, mainly cause it was hard to get a good grip. Then I made a tool by bending a lenth of 3/8 rod and sharpening the short leg to a chisel shape. once I had that I just slowly pried it out , being carful to make sure it still would rotate so I knew it was still straight

45 Bucks at Cummins,, BUT Not in stock. $52.00 at Dodge dealer and IN STOCK....
I Tried for over 2 hours to get a used one out of an engine I have sitting in my driveway, Could not get it out,it would spin around so easy but would not come out,,,, I said to myself if it is this hard to get this one out imagine when I try to take the one out of the truck laying on my back in my driveway,,,OH BOY...I knew it was going to be a PITA...
So I came home from work after picking up the new sensor,,Pulled my starter,, Pulled the dipstick, Unbolted the sensor and it spun but would not come out. So I got a small screwdriver and tried to pry it out when it POPPED Out and almost hit me in the face,, WOW,, 30 Min start to finish,I was done,,, After fighting with the used engine in the driveway for HOURS!!!!!
Oh Well it's done and works fine again,,,,,,,,,
Thanks for all your replies..
