2-3 second delay for TC Lockup Normal?
In either 3rd or OD, my TC lockup comes only after a 2 or 3 second delay even with light throttle. Is this normal? My tranny's stock right now but I'm planning on upgrading it after Christmas. Would a new VB affect the delayed lockup? I'm also considering a new TC along with the VB. I'm assuming a totoally new TC will behave differently - is this a correct assumption? Any feedback is appreciated.

Mine does that too. It bugs me big time. That stock shift is awfull. Thats going to be my first upgrade , a valve body shift kit , maybe a converter at the same time if I have the money.
My trans is new rebuilt at the dodge dealer just before I got the truck. I Wish the guy I bought it from did the trans upgrades.
Id like to drive someones truck with a shift kit and TC so I can feel how it shifts.

On the 1999 models there was a TSB for this, it involved swapping out the seperator plate for the valve body.
If your going to get a different VB I would try that first and if it didn't help you could always change the seperator plate later.

Mine delay shifts also. I want to upgrade the TC, but I don't want a hard shifting rig. I just want the rpms to drop so I know the power is getting to the ground. WOT the RPM is 2800. Way past the torque peak of 1500.
Do I need to do a valve body thing also or just the TC?

If you get a better"tighter" tc it will shift harder and you will notice a harder engagement when you drop it into gear. My truck will creep along 10 mph when dropprd into gear. Stock it would just sit there till you gave it fuel. You can have the valve body programmed to shift firm for towing or race for tire chirping shifts. The tow set up will be a lot firmer than stock. The faster the shifts the longer your trans will last. The tc lock up delay is supposed to be there. It lets the trans upshift and get moving before it locks, once you get in high gear leave up on the fuel a little till in locks this will greatly reduce wear on the tc clutches.
ps you want both the tc and shift kit/valve body. shift kit alone won't do much with the stock tc, you need sk/vb to get the most of the new tc.
