1999 lift pump question
I have an elderly neighbor that drives a 99'. The truck has 84000 miles on it and he has the servicing done like clock work. The truck is mint. His truck recently would not go above 30 mph and then after awhile down the road the truck would run fine. Took it to the dealer and he believes they changed something around the the tank (he wasn't sure). I'm assuming it was the lift pump. Well the truck is doing the same thing now (one week later) when he gets low on fuel (below a quarter tank). I told him to take it back to the dealer, have him put a gauge on the fuel system and show him exactly what fuel psi he has. Does anyone have any other suggestions besides the lift pump?

Re:1999 lift pump question
It sounds like a lift pump symptom to me. He wants to be sure he takes it back with less than a quarter tank of fuel, so the dealer can see the problem. These systems will not produce a code when the lift pump goes bad, unless the fuel injection pump gets hot, and by then it is too late and the injection pump has to be replaced too.
