1999 Dodge Fuel Transfer Pump Source

I have about 83K on my 1999 CTD Ram 2500. I want to replace the fuel transfer pump before the thing cr*ps out and costs me an injector pump. I don't put much mileage on this truck maybe 5K a year if that and it is mostly local. I was just going to get a new pump and put it back on the block I fiqure if I get 15K out of it that is 3 years and I may relpace the truck by then. I know dodge does not sell these. Can you guys suggest some sources for a replacement?

im not sure what a good deal is on them but ive seen them on ebay brand new for around 150 give or take.... you also could just leave it and install a fuel pressure gauge or install a warning light so you will know when its taking a deuce

They can be had at your local NAPA for about 200 bones or from your local Cummins store for less.

Fuel pump

I called Cummins today and was told where I could buy one locally. 162.00 for a Cummins made by Carter. I replaced mine today. The Dodge dealership told me that they would not sell them any longer. They are going to a in the tank pump system that cost around $500.00 plus labor (300.00) Go figure a lift pump is a great deal cheaper and easier to fix. Good luck.

instead of replacing, add a holley blue electric pump. i did mine 2 weeks ago and push to the original lift pump, i now run 17 psi at idle and only cost 100.00- cheaper and better than original pump. it really is an easy install, took me about an hour to do.good luck-
bill
p.s.- fuel pump was off the shelf from autozone..95.00 with regulator, only have to get a relay and hose fittings.

I tried the Aeromotive AEI-11203, pumps at 16 psi and can't bring it below 8psi at WOT pulling 10,000lbs. I have had it for just under a year and 70,000 miles on it with no problems what so ever. Very good pump.

I also put it on the frame rail at the tank with a Geno's relocation kit. The campaign pump worked for appx 35,000 miles before it started dropping pressure.
Just my 2 cents

Wow, I appreciate the ideas.

DeiselDemon: I like this low cost option for putting the pump back in the same location. Is the pump for the Bluebirdbus (Cummins part # 4090046) for $65.00 the "campaign pump" that I have seen in other posts? If so it looks like pquevill got about 35K out of this solution before he went to is current setup. If I could get another 35K out of a $65 pump in the old location I think I would be happy since I probably would be rid of this truck long before hand. Is there any disavantage to using this $65 pump over the $162 Carter that Cummin sales that Fishjager spoke of below?

Fishjager: Do you have a part number for that pump?

Pquevill: What was your source for this pump? Would it go back in the same position as the orginal or would I need to move it with the $50 kit from Geno's?

My local mechanic was talking to a guy who has a business rebuilding pumps says that I will probably be lucky to get 100K out of the injection pump in any case.

thanks for the advice need to do something by Saturday.

Twhman, the part number for the Cummins pump is 4943048. By the way, it is made by Carter for Cummins. It just comes in a Cummins box. I am interested in hearing more of the Holley Blue electric pump. Wow so many things to get into.................

Talking

Summint sells the Bully dog kit that i have, Vulcan sells a good LP relocation kit too. Get the Campaign pump from your local Cummins shop and save some bucks. Heck i saw on Ebay the Campaign pump for $168 tonight.
that's a good way to make a buck on those.
If you don't have a FP guage then install the low FP light kit that comes with the Campaign pump.
PS join your local Chapter and get them to help install it with you.

You can get the Aeromotive at some speed shops around town. or buy on the web from Summit Racing
http://store.summitracing.com/

And you'll have to mount it at the frame rail as it won't match up on the engine mount. Plus it has less stress on the pump and probably why the pressure is more stable. OR you could mount after the fuel filter by fabricating a bracket and then you're using the filter before the pump to keep trash out of the pressure springs.

I just spoke to Cummins today and they are now asking over $160 for the campaign pump. I don't know who I talked to before, but they sure aren't $65 anymore.
