Hook up a fuel pressure gage , I do not remember , but I think you should have a min. 7-9 psi from lift pump-LP .
The put a test light on the LP 1st power side , then check with ohm meter for a good ground , see if the pump is getting power during those first couple of turns of the key [ maybe the ignition switch is not making that connection the 1st couple of times ] .
If your going to stay a while , fill in more of the truck info in the signature , and put you location , you may be near someone that could help .

1998 dodge 2500 wait to start light

Thanks for the info, pump is not getting power during the first try at starting. It will come on when the "wait to start" light goes off, and then starts right up,until I turn the truck off. Im in Meridian, Texas. It does not matter if the truck is cold or hot,and the temp outside does not matter.

Now just go upstream , hot from fuel pump , till you find where its not going through , power .
Could be burned points in relay , brushes / armature in pump motor , and key sw.

Mine was the same way until my oil pressure sending unit went out, once that was replaced the wait to start light works fine.

The pump should run for 25 seconds when you "bump" the starter if not try inter changing the relay there are 3 in the PDC all the same.
