1693 Code??

That code won't turn on the check engine light.
It is a companion code, it will show up in the PCM saying there is a code in the ECM, or vice versa.
You must have a code that can't be retrieved by the key on/off/on/off/on method.
You'll have to have it scanned with a real code reader to find out.
Most auto parts stores can do this, and most will also do it for free.
Keep in mind though, there are some codes that don't show up in their readers either, and can only be seen by a genuine Dodge DRB Scan Tool.

The 1693 I had was the companion to the Map Sensor that went out. Its a conflict code that just says the computer is not reading a sensor correctly. Had it again with the Crankshaft Position Sensor went out.
The computer can't tell the injection pump want to do without all the imputs from the sensors.
I sure am sorry I gave my 96 12v to my son when I bought the one I have now. I told him if he ever wanted to get rid of it, to let me know. Its got 245k on it now. He's changed one mechanical fuel pump and one relay that controls the fuel shutdown since he's had it.
