12V guy needs help with a 24V
Yup
u guys know me and a good buddy of mine has a sport 2001 dodge ram.
He has alot of trouble startin it up after it sits 3-4 hours, but in the morning it starts up just fine.... we already ruled out the air in the lines theory, that cannot be it, the LP and IP are not monitered, truck is bone stock, i suggested a FP gauge.... he is lookin into it... but does anyone have any ideas about what the issue can be?
Ive never had this issue with my 12V but it think it be losing prime if it was with my truck..
Thanks guys!

Does the truck only start hard after it has been warmed up and driven for a period of time? I had that same problem with my truck about a year and a half ago, if that is the case, the injection pump might be taking a dump. Do the ignition check for codes, cycle the key to the on position three times and see what codes if any come up on the odemeter window and then report back.

Rick you need to check this truck with a scanner. The Key on/off trick rarely works to reveal all the codes. Then, you must check the fuel pressure (at the test port on the VP-44). You will need a special schreader fitting to check it. The setup looks like this:

Hard stars when warm is a classic sign of a dead VP-44.....if thats the case, I would bet the LP is toast as well (ie, no fuel pressure).

Mine does lose prime sometimes. I bump the starter for 5 sec and it starts right up. but know nobody else that has this situation.
That can't be your problem if it starts fine cold (in the morning).
There is an dealer update 'flash' for computer that cuts back the timeframe on the fuel pump, pre start 'squirt'. It's free if you can test a Smarty!
