100,000 mile Valve Check - Who should do it?
Only 8K from 100 grand. Still on original tires, LP, IP, batteries and serpentine belt. But I'm supposed to have the valves looked at. If I have access to either a pretty good Dodge dealer or a Cummins shop, who's best set up to look at it?

Cummins shop
I had mine done at Cummins. Not slamming the dealer, but they aren't touching my engine.
Cost less and I had peace of mind.
That reminds me I'm coming up on my second...

Dang you drive a lot.
I just scheduled my 45,000 mile oil change for tomorrow morning.
Delivered 3-1-02 - 45,100 miles 6-15-05
I second the Cummins shop.
I highly doubt there's a Dodge mechanic that's even seen the valves in our engines.

Not bashing the few fine diesel mechanics we have on this site

I 3rd the cummins shop. I remeber when i had to replace the timing cover. DEALER=500+$ just for the cover. KENWORTH my local cummins authorized dealer= 320$ for cover, crankseal, and all other gaskets.
Hmmm can anyone say about 120% markup.

Phox, bought mine 2 months after you and I am at 82,000 now, commuting 110 miles day and the fishing/hunting trips will rack em up.
And to the question at hand, if you need to have it done take it to cummins not a dealer, cummins will do a better job and be cheaper.
*not slamming dealerships, just my opinion*

If you have someone else do it you get a ""good enough" for who its for...like I have said b4 it 's like kissing you wife who should be doing it??
Plus most of us gear heads have found that even brand new out of the box they come way LOOSE......and if you do the adj. you can run them dwn to min clearance.
For every deg. of slop you run 1 deg. retard on the cam..........................think about that
