Unhappy 0216 Code...grrrrr

Took the truck to my sister (service manager of the dodge dealership here) and had it checked out yesterday, got the 0216 code. I've been getting the dead pedal and lose of boost when i'm towing my 30' fith wheel...or when i'm out on a long trip, i'm running and EZ, so i took it off and never had the problem again. I sent it to edge and they checked it out and sent it back with no problems, so reinstall, head to the lake and it does it again. So my VP is goin out...what i want to know is how much time has anyone had once a code has been set, i have taken off the edge for now, but dont have the 1500 or so to change out the pump right now....so am i on borrow time with this thing...i have a new lp in it with it never dropping below 11psi. Anyone got any ideas where to get a vp? My sis's cost is 1420.00 her cost!!! And i know i have seen them cheaper on here just dont know. Thanks for any info...Russ

That $1420 is a rebuilt pump or new pump from Bosch?

It sounds like you need to start saving your money for the new pump. I've had dead pedal since 30k miles on my truck and I'm over 87k on the same pump.

I know I wouldn't want to be pulling a TT knowing my truck could malfunction at anytime.

What's your lift pump pressure when the motor is acting up? It's been told a coupla times here that low lift pump pressure affects pump timing and causes the P0216 DTC.

I have a new LP on there i run 14.5 at idle and with the most load on it...30 ft 5th wheel, pullin out of the river bottom 10psi. So i dont think that is an issue, filter is new.

Do I see a rash of dead VP-44's?
Is it the fuel?

When I buy mine--soon- do I need to just get two??

It seems to be a bigger problem with modified engines?? Or at least I don't see too many owners of stock trucks posting about this issue?
I may be wrong but it looks that way.

I put quite a few on in the spring early summer. The heat seems to bring out the bad ones.

j-fox..
I was wondering the same thing, seems like the failures are coming out of the woodwork right now. I've been getting the p0216 fault, truck runs fine 99% of the time, then wham, dead pedal and black smoke??? not really symptoms of a dead IP. Took it to dealer, LP pressures check ok as well as flow, PSI never fell below 10psi at WOT, and did not act up, said drive till fails because DC wont approve new IP when there is no power loss. Now Ive got one more code in addition to the 1693 and 0216, its 0234, over boost. I am bone stock, cept for the BHAF.

Mine is getting an injection pump right now

Bone stock. 61,300 miles and the 216 code with dead peddal on occasion. Dealer gave me no hassle, he called me at work yesterday to say the pump was on order overnight and he would call today when it is done. He didn't say if they were changing the lift pump or not, I would expect them to...

Ok i got my truck in Dec. bone stock, first thing i did was take it down and have the fp checked...13@idle...they said it was fine,,,so about a month later i put in my 3 gauges, fired it up and only had 3pis at idle and 0 driving...so replaced the lift pump, now i'm 14.5@idle and never under 11 WOT, then i put on my edge EZ, never had a problem till i was on a trip, then get the dead pedal and lose of boost, then it would come back and be fine, well thats been goin on for 4 months now, sent the EZ in and it checked out fine. Took the truck in and there it is 0216 code. So after being on the phone and online lookin for a replacement i finally did.... www.cumminsstuff.com AWESOME people!! Called this morning, in stock already shipped to me, $975.00,,,400.00 core 1 yr warranty. Just cant say enough about them. Great people.. So if ya need a VP call them first. Hopefully have it here by Wed.

hey guys,
take a look at www.bluechipdiesel.com, i just bought a VP44 pump brand new with high pro. guts and better computer for $1600.00. The core charge is a little pricey @ $1400.00. If you call these guys' and talk to Chip he'll give you the scoop on how he got ahold of this special VP44 pump and he and the boys at blue chip made a computer work on this pump. I have a 1000 miles on mine and run'en strong

a couple of the code are that the Vp44 pump computer does not like what the pump is doing and vise versa.
