0216 code
Tried the key trick and got some codes. I cleared them and the one that remains is everybodies favorite 0216 from the ECM.
I had p-1693 of course, p-1687 (oil pump circuit )
For the ECU 1693 and 0216
Truck runs *great* Makes an intermittant ticking sound when cold- like every five seconds. Maybe thats a miss. No dead pedal. Just a little white puff on startup. No hard starts. 150k miles.
So does 0216 always mean a dead VP? I notice the thread on the p-0216 club that it is a p code and not from the ecm- does this make a difference. I assume one set of codes is from the ECM and the other from the VP's cpu.
FP guage is being installed as we speak.
So do I need to make immediate arrangements for VP replacement or not?
Thanks in advance for the advice

Hows your fuel milage been?
I would mentally prepare yourself for a VP replacement anyway. Sooner or later its gonna happen.
Sounds like you havent checked your fuel pressure yet so as soon as your gauge get installed report in.
But prepair for replacement so your not to floored when it comes.

On the COMPLETE list of codes, that I printed out a while back (from my Service Manual)...they are all P codes. So I suspect yours are also.
I can tell you that weak power crept up on me slowly...did not notice it till I changed out my VP-44. Drives like a whole new truck.
Will it do harm to other components if not fixed immediately...don't know for sure, but I don't think so.
Just depends, to my way of thinking, how important it is to you not to end up on the side of a road with a dead truck...20 miles from anywhere, some stormy evening at 2 am. That's probably when it will wait to happen!
I personally, for future reference, would love to hear how long it will run without getting worse or dying.
Good luck Phat!

It has been theorized that a bad lift pump can cause a P-0216,
intermittent change of flow rate can cause a temporary timing issue in the injection pump.
If you're not seeing the classic symptoms, dead peddle, obvious miss, bad idle, lots of white smoke, etc, then it might just be a dying lift pump, and if you change it out, it might not have been bad long enough to hurt the VP44.

(reading that back to myself, I forgot basic grammar, but still gets the point accross)

All I saw was intermitant hard starts and white smoke at startup...as well as some minor indicators of reduced power and unexplainable loss of 1.5 mpg on two tanks.
Ran mine for at least 1000 miles before realized there was a major problem (dynoed 80 hp lower than last time).
Really never got worse...just was not willing to leave it like that.
Just realized you said he ran 50K...not 50 miles.....so, nevermind!

Goto Dodge and have them test my out of warrenty LP or just throw a holley or carter on there? I'm guessing the latter.
Got my truck back and #1 they did not install the pyro preturbo as I specificly asked them to and just argued with me when I confronted them about it. Bring it back and pay more was their answer to why didn't you do the work I paid you for? I guess when I swap turbo's that'll take care of the hole they drilled in the downpipe. I'll have to get it done right elsewhere
I've got a working post turbo pyro and boost guage and a 4" exhaust on so I should be happy- it just seems I can't have my truck worked on locally. Oh and they said they couldn't hook up the FP guage
I'll save the rest of my money for Olee and ADT cuz these guys are driving me nuts.

Move the pyro yourself. Not that hard and you can put a brass plug in the downpipe. How did you want your fp gauge hooked up. If you are wanting a direct hose to the gauge in the cab I wouldn't touch that with a 10ft pole either. Too much liability involved. I would run my own that way, but there is no way I would do that install on someone elses vehicle.

Certain DTC's will clear themselves after 40 warm-up cycles if the fault condition doesn't occur again. I just joined the P0216 club and also have a P0230. After replacing the lift pump, it runs fine so I'm hoping there was no damage to the VP44.

Get that LP replaced as soon as you can. If you catch it soon enough, you may prevent VP damage. Either way, even if it is too late, you will want to replace the LP not just the VP so your not wasting any money.
