They are all remanufactured now... but that ok. They all come with the new electronics and those that have replaced w/ remanufactured are doing fine...myself included.
However, if you have to go with an intank lift pump to get the new VP-44 injector pump, I believe the FASS wont work.
Work with your dealer, if you can. Leave the factory fuel pick up system and add the FASS instead of the intank pump. Then you'll be set for the life of your engine!
Good Luck!

I have an appt with the dealership tomorrow am. I was planning to buy the FASS anyway, so this is just prodding me to buy it. The VP44 will be covered by the warranty (from the CSR at the warranty company).

A bit of information to add here.
I had a rebuilt VP44 8 months ago. New filter and LP.
I started getting 0216 codes last week - 2 times then this week about 6 times - didn't reset each time - just got dead pedal for a few seconds and the code.
Called the overhauler - a seemingly trustworthy guy. He said to check the filter - even though it hadn't been on there that long. Monitoring fuel pressure - never under 6 lbs WOT - about 11 at idle. He said 0216 codes could indicate contamination going through the filter to the pump.
I pulled the filter - checked - very dirty -resistant to air flow by plugging the bottom and blowing through-- no water -sediment in the housing even though draining the filter checking for water showed only clean diesel. Filter was very dark -dirty.
Cleaned the housing -changed the filter - filled housing - primed filter housing through top plug - cycling the key to pump.
Reset code - road tested -- WOT 6 1/2 to 7 lbs pressure - about 12 at idle - carter pump on engine as stock.
Point being - 6 lbs with a plugged filter was not enough to satisfy VP44 needs causing heating and throwing a "death" code several times- gauge on VP side of filter - after filter -
At this time there seems to be no degradation in performance or other damage. No code on the test drive of about 10 miles. I will update here if I get codes again - but at this point it appears that the 0216 is not always death but could also indicate inadequate fuel flow or a plugged filter if it hasn't damaged the pump.

I bought my truck at a used car lot in another state as is. It had 42000 miles when I bought it. At about 69000 miles got the code and pedal. Took it to the dealer, no questions asked they had it one day and changed the VP all under DCs warranty. The only thing they charged me for was 40$ for a new fuel filter, I know that was an expensive filter but I just got a free VP so I was happy to give them 40 bucks for a filter! They said my lift pump was fine but I think they just check them at idle not under load, so shortly after that I bought the vulcan relo kit and a new pump. Its now down on the frame and at idle im getting 16psi and I cant pull it below 12 at WOT, even on a 7% grade pulling my 10000 lbs. toyhauler. All in all im kind of glad they said the lift pump was still good because then they would have put the intank pump in and that would have sucked!

I think I will move mine down too. Pressure is too marginal with it on the engine.
I read that there are great improvements if it is moved down. Link to the article found on this forum.

I just got off the phone with my dealer. The LP was indeed failing, but I apparently drove little enough to not cause terrible damage to the VP44. They installed my FASS, and it's working fine. I'll drive the snot out of it in the next week and see how she does.
