02 drivetain good or bad ??
I just looked at an 02 extended cab DRW with a 6 spd. In it.
It was clean, with a 181K miles on it.
Are there any problematic issues with the Motors, Trans. or T-case that year ? Or is that a good year to purchase a 24V ?
They wanted $11K for it.
thanks
In advance.

VP44 pump (injector pump) and lift pumps. If the lift pump is factory and never been replaced then it probably has been starving the injection pump. My 99 went through 5 lift pumps. The pressures where check regulary. The VP44 died about 310k. Everything else should be ok if it hasn't been abused. i wouldn't go over $10k my self.

From my experience those and the 2001.5 are the best - rear disc brakes. If it has the 6 speed and most likely no 53 block being a 2002 then you are good to do. Check the fuel pressure and double check the block just to make sure it isn't a 53. I don't even think there are any 02 with them though. The rear end, transfer case and front end are good, so is the engine except the VP44 can go out if the lift pump has been starving it as dieselfreak mentioned. The NV5600 seem pretty strong as long as the correct fluid was used and it shifts good I would say you are set. I think 11K would be ok if it has some options like leather and or is really clean. Like my truck is not a work truck although I do haul and tow some with it. It is not beat up and has no dents or scratches anywhere. So condition will bring a premium as well as maintenance records etc. I try to buy vehicles from people that are car/truck nuts like I am - they take care of them much better and enjoy tinkering etc.

Last of the 53 blocks were early 01's. None in 02.
02's are solid.... best of 2nd Gens, IMO No major problems with engine, 6-speed, T-Case or differential.
With that mileage you may have usually stuff to contend with, if it's been avoided ..... Ball joints, Track Bar if original, U-Joints, Injector Pump, Shocks, Brakes. Possibly the carrier bearing, if original.
Injectors are probably shot, if factory. Steering Box will be weak if it never had a steering brace on it.
One good indicator of how well it was maintained is how clean is the radiator. Crank case vent bottle sits on the front and can't help but spill some oil. Most all of us have relocated it and it's often overlooked by the uninformed.
You don't list your location but I would only buy a sunbelt CTD with that many miles. No rust! JMO.
But major drive train items should be OK.... if well maintained.
Engine is just broken in.
