01 Dually Tires

I have a 01 Dually and i want to put some taller and wider tires on it. I was wondering whats the biggest and tallest i can put on it without making it look stupid and i have a leveling kit. I would like not to have to buy a spacer for the back but if i have to i will and do you know where i can get them and how much they are. And if i put bigger tires on it what will it do to my axle ratio as far as makin it lower or higher. Thanks alot Eric

There are no good alternative applications. Several years ago you could buy 255/85R 16's in load range E from Firestone - a taller tire. That tire is no longer made, and now you can only buy these in load range D from Dunlop or Goodrich - which kind of defeats the purpose of a 3500 dually. You can also fit a 265/75R 16 to the vehicle - a slightly shorter but wider tire made by lots of different companies in load range E. However, any sort of load in the bed or on the hitch will cause those tires to rub.

There are a couple of off-brand tires in 255/85R 16 load range E - but those tires are made by the same Chinese company that conveniently leaves off safety features to widen their profit margins - and kills people on American highways....

If you decide to go with spacers, buy only those made of steel - billet aluminum is not durable enough, no matter what anyone tells you. High quality steel spacers will cost you about $400-500 for a pair. You'll need to check state and local codes - many localities will fail your inspection for this particular modification.
