01 Dodge 2500 terbo with Lance/camper
Retired: Iron Ore Miner and US Navy EM
Love my noisy P/U Even purchased on Ebay.
Having problems now, and tired of pay dealer ripoffs. Going to need some help
learning how to repair what can be done on the road.
Just finished replacing lift pump ($176. from cummins) vs (around $1400. local dealer) wanted. Right now will only idle, code 1693 will not clear. Also has 251,
252, and 1688 that can be cleared but the first two come right back with a delay then 1688. Going thru it a step at a time till I figure it out. Just tired of different dealers with different answers and $80 to $120 hour labor costs. Worked in electronics/electrical most of my life and quite a few different cars and trucks (never a diesel). Enjoying the forum more as I seem to be getting a little less stupid. Pretty sure Ip has gone south and I will be replacing myself!
Going to go thru everything step by step over the next few weeks so please be ready for a few dumb questions. Have a cheap scanner(pocketscan, CP9125) and will be ordering a fuel meter or kit shortly just from info. I've read here. Anyway nothing like experience to find some knowledge. slewboat

251- Fuel Injection Pump Mechanical Failure Fuel Valve Feedback Circuit
252 - I don't know
1688 - Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure
If you meant 253 - Fuel Injection Pump Fuel Valve Open Circuit
Possibly these could be a problem in the wiring.

Thanks for reply. I double checked its 252, ip metering control A range/performance. Sure am checking wiring first and hoping. Used to get 753 and 1693 but could clear with key for about 18 months but now 1693 seems to be permanent. Lift pump from cummins was a carter and after replacing, it will start, sometimes rough, then idles at 750 pretty smooth. As far as I can tell the lift pump was original and have 238k on truck. Don't know how long it may have been bad or failing but coil was open. Checking wires one by one. Thanks again for reply. Also white, lg bed, half cab and smooth with the Lance on. Last trip to from fla. got 14-16 mpg
