**no throttle, sputtering engine, gray smoke** HELP
ok guys, for about a month or two now, my truck has lost acceleration while cruising at highway speeds (about once or twice every few weeks). Didnt think much of it, after a few seconds it would resume normal function (juice on or off).
Well today when i started it up (about 70* outside) and drove out of the parking lot, it was sputtering real bad and blowing gray/purple smoke. Obviously seeing this as abnormal, I pulled over to give the traffic a chance to pass. While in neutral, when i gassed it, again sputtering and the gray smoke.
After letting it sit for a few minutes idling, I checked the fluid levels, turned off the juice and tried to drive away. No problems and it drove fine.
During the sputtering and so forth, no abnormal temp readings, and fuel pressure was normal and above 10.
Any thoughts??
Thanks!!

It sounds like a bad VP44 injection pump. I would do the key cycle trick and see what codes come up, write them down and report back. Cycle the key three times to the run position without starting the truck, then look at you odometer for codes. I had the same symptoms this winter when my fuel gelled, but obviously to warm for that in this case

I know what your feeling, I have these same symptoms and code on my '02! I have only owned this truck for two months, and knew of the VP failure problem when I bought the truck, but just wasnt expecting it this quickly. I like the cummins, but the price of a new pump has me missing my old stroke right now.

HA! They dont make those!
I used to get all of mine from Doug at PDW, but he's went on to better things. Mid west diesel injection (i think is what its called?) has them pretty cheap. Might try powerbypoole.com or industrialinjection.com
