Yet another charging system question

Well this is irritating, I am having the common problems of no charging in the electrical system, thus no overdrive, AC ect. I thought I had narrowed it down to the Crank Speed Sensor, well now i am not sure anymore. I have noticed a reoccuring trend with this truck. Whenever the truck has sat and is cold, ie over night, when i got to start it, i get all normal functions, wait to start light will light up then go off, turn her over and she fires right up. Voltage gauge reads 14v and everything is functioning, OD, AC. Everything will work fine, i take it for a good long ride and she warms up and everything is ok. As soon as i turn the truck off after it is warm, and then start it again, i get no AC, No OD and only a reading of about 10 volts on the volt meter. So now i am thinking this is something to do with tempature possibly, but i have no idea. After it is warm and i try to start it again, sometimes the Wait to start light will come on, sometimes it wont, sometimes it will come on and never go off. Need some more help from you guys on here, i need to get things functioning right for plow season. Thanks

I would throw a crank sensor at it for grins. It's cheaper than the PCM.

You will need a 10 MM wrench. It is easyer to change it from under the truck. It is only held on with 2 nuts. Set the air gap for about .050".

Check the wiring plug by "1 valve cover. It has the most heat thrown at it. That plug lays on the head most of the time.

Yeah, i looked at it again tonight and it does not seem to to difficult, time should tell. The new part will be here at the end of the week so i can put it in over the weekend. I am 100% sure that this problem is heat related. When i got home from work tonight i went and started the truck and everything functioned normal. I see where the plug is by the first valve cover, is it possible that the heat from the valve cover is causing my problems?

That plug is noted for getting loose terminals inside or breaking the wires inside the covering. Take it apart. Inside the female side of the plug you will see some small tabs in the terminal. Take a small O ring pick or screwdriver and gently bend the tabs back out some. Then throw some dialectric grease in it and plug it back together. See if that helps the problem any.

thanks for the info, i checked the wires closley tonight, everything looked alright, no visual signs, clean the plug put some di electric grease in there, cant tell if it helped yet or not, cause everytime i start it when it is cold, no problems with the charging system. I will say that ever since i have been chasing this problem, the charging system seems to work alot better then it did. Thanks
