WVO added to my diesel?

The wife is after me to get rid of all the used peanut oil that is packing the shelves in the storage room. I fry turkeys every holiday season and put the oil back into the gallon jugs to await disposal which never happens. Probably got 40 gallons. If I strain it again would it damage my engine to put 1 gallon in at each fillup? I usually run my tank nearly empty and add deisel additive. I did a search on our 1st gens for wvo but the results were not conclusive as alright or not. Thanks for the help.

you only want to put 1 gallon/fillup? heck, in a 35 gal tank there is probably more than a gallon of water/muck/crud in there. the truck wouldnt even notice. if you wanted to dump 25 gallons, well that may be different. assuming a 35 gal tank, 1 gal is only 2.8%.

You can run 100 percent vegetable oil in your truck. As long as the oil will flow such as in the warmer climates. However, without heating the oil or running a dual circuit fuel system where you would also heat the filter assembly in colder climates or winter months the vegetable oil would gel in the fuel filter and lines and make it difficult to start. carry a couple extra fuel filters with you. wvo has a solvent effect and all the accumulated gunk will clog the filter.

i kept 5 gallons of turkey frier oil (peanut, i think) only to have it start growing mold after a little while.

i always filtered it using a paint strainer. i don't know if that ever happened to anyone else, or if it would even be possible when diluted with a bunch of diesel.....

If it is moldy DONT USE IT! Your diesel can get moldy with age too,, But all that aside, If it is nonhydroginated oil, use it, filter it with a 5 micon filter, and blend it right in with your diesel,, When your truck is at a 3/4 tank, throw 5 gallons in, I doubt you wil notice any difference,,, I have been running 10-80% wvo depending on the outside temp,, I haveny clogged a filter, and it's been about 7-10k miles i have been blending.

I think the original Diesel ran on peanut oil. But maybe Diesel was some kind of nut. And I don't even think he was a Canadian or could speak the Queen's English or anything.

Diesel hoped that his engine could be made to run on waste products like coal dust and blast furnace gas. The first diesel that actually ran used kerosene.

He spoke German, French, and English fluently.

For more info see "Diesel's Engine" by C. Lyle Cummins (son of Clessie Cummins).

I don't know if I can trust someone who drives one of those new-fangled Intercooled Trucks. Are you sure you are not part of the rock-oil conspiracy which has pushed whale oil and veggy off of the centre stage??

Oh, man! Next time some eco nut asks me why I drive a big smoky truck I'm gonna tell them that's because I can run it on whale oil. And when I'm not out harpooning whales for free oil I'm clubbing baby seals for their fur or cutting down trees just to watch them fall.

If it looks clear and is not cloudy dump it in. 5 gals at a time is more than safe. I do 8 gals at a fill up with no trouble other than rough running for a few seconds when I first start it once in a great while. You will notice the smell of the exhaust change. I take it to the pump pour it in and then top off so that it mixes well. I let my waste oil settle out and then pump off the top and dump it in. since yours has been sitting it should be ready to go. Carry a spare filter as you should be doing already.
