would like to finish tranny install need help

Had my tranny rebuilt, reinstalled tranny. The rebuilder installed a seal on the output shaft the problem is the coupling connecting the transfer case and the tranny does not fit. I removed the seal and tried to pick up one that would fit in the tranny and around the coupling. Seams there is not one that fits. A friend of a friend said it did not need a seal. Any one out there know for sure?

Need some more info. What kind of tranny?

Please fill out your signature in the UserCP with all your truck info. Makes it easier for us to help you if we can see at a glance what you have. And what mods you've performed.

Sounds like you are trying to install an NV4500. Yes, you do not use the seal. Just RTV the surface between the transmission and transfer case. You could have the coupling turned down to fit the seal, but a little risky.

I've been converting my NV4500 from 2wd to 4wd. I was trying to find a seal that we could run in the tailhousing...found one, but they want huge money for it. Why not machine the case to accept the larger diameter Getrag seal?

I will probably just run with no seal...but I always like to try and make things function as close to original as possible.
