wondering weather to buy crew cab?
i have seen a 1985 one ton 4x4 single tire crew cab pu with a gasser in it. would like to buy a parts pu and change it over to cummins with a nv4500 five speed and correct transfer case. is there a lot of difference in the frame between an 85 one ton and lets say a first gen 90's cummins pu.? are the rear doors impossible to find? just like to have a more family friendly pu.

Went from This ( '83 D-350 swr, 440, Auto)
To This (Cummins 5spd )
Same truck. Pretty much a bolt in with some minor mods ( no frame mods required) And yes rear, doors are next to impossible to find. Every once in a while there's one or two on Ebay

I have 3 sets of rear doors Not for sale. I also have an 85 crew cab, and it does look to be the same.

Yes, it seems you got either a long bed xcab, or short bed crew in 4x4 trim. Maybe too much weight for a gasser to lug around? driveline issues? who knows. But if you see a 4x4 long bed crew, it isnt likely stock. Kinda like the new Mega Cab in SWB only.

There's a 4x4 crewcab w/ the 6ft bed sitting in a salvage yard in Ridgecrest, CA right now. It's complete and the body looks to be in great shape. If I had a place to put it, I'd grab it in a NY minute.

so let me ask this---------- i have a 93 4x4 long box cummins is the frame and wheel base the same on a 4x4 short box crew cab. mmmmmmmmmmmmm otherwords could i pull my cab and box and install cc and shortbox on my frame without lengthening it. or is the club cab long box closer to the right length. i had seen the crew cab on the craigslist , thanks for showing me. i would like to keep it a single tired one ton. had a dually chevy diesel 4x4 in the past and loved the way it hauled , but had no traction in snow or mud even with 4x4 and could not make it thru drive thru anywere with my old dually.

I currently have 3 crew cabs, and all of them are short beds. The pre 1981's obviously have a diff body, however the rear doors appear to be identical to what they used in the 80's I have 2 4x4 short beds, and 1 2wd short bed.
Im sure a long bed would be very difficult to find. Im starting to wonder if they did use a club cab, long bed frame, and thus used a short bed-i dont know, its a guess.

I know a guy who is putting a crew cab shortbed on his 93 Club cab long bed chassis.
farmer0_1- That's funny that your dually wouldnt do well in snow or mud- my current one does quite well in snow for being 1wd (900# flatbed on back helps, I'd guess.) I had a W350 dually that'd go places a JD 4020 wouldnt go. Not doubting you, just odd that it clashes with my personal experience.

The only thing I would be worried about with a double cab is turning radius. I borrowed my parents' king cab ford for while before I bought my truck, and you needed 40 acres to turn that thing around!

Actually niether will work.First its definately longer than standard cab long bed frame.Secondly the kick up in the frame on clubcab is in the wrong spot for a crewcab. On a clubcab the rear floor is higher than the front seat thus putting the kickup in the frame the same spot as a standard cab,but on a crewcab the front and rear seat floors are the same height, putting the kickup back a lot farther. With out modifing either the cab or the frame the only way a crewcab will sit flat is on a crewcab frame.
